Trailer Hire

Sometimes people do not need to buy a trailer. Sometimes just hiring a trailer is enough for some people. For that reason you could consider buying a used trailer and then hiring it out. What type of trailer? Well that would depend on two things; the demand for a particular trailer, i.e. car transporter; and your interest in a particular hobby.

To find out if there is a demand for a car transporter, for example, you need to do some market research. Looking around your area and asking questions. Looking in local newspapers for adverts on car removal etc. You could go to garages and ask about their car transporter trailer. How often is it used? In other words are they busy with work that requires the use of the transporter? Is there times when they could do with another one? If so, could they contact you for the use of yours? Find out the answers to all these questions before investing in the trailer.

The same sort of questions and research should be done which ever area of use for a trailer is required. For example, Garden refuse. Without doing any research you could set yourself up as a business with a wonderful trailer ready to receive phone calls for your services. Only to find, as in my area, the Council collect all this garden refuse from you for free! That's right. Every household in my area just has to phone the Council and tell them what you have that you no longer want, and they send a lorry around to collect it! So there is no point in competing with them!

Market Research is essential before you start any business. Having done this, the next thing to do is costings. Work out how much you have to charge a customer to cover your costs. Now here is where the good news comes in.  Every other form of removal costs far more than using a trailer. For example, you see around your district, A Man with a Van advert. Now these people have gone out and bought a Van with the intention of earning money from removals. The investment is high. The running costs are high. They and their staff need paid per hour. The overheads mount up.

Whereas the same sort of items could easily be moved in a trailer. It has no staff, engine, MOT, tax disc, exhaust system, etc. that all need money spent on it. Just hire the trailer out for others to use.

Here is a bit of advice that you should take on board, not only is this relevent for trailer hire but also for any business.

The main reason some people make money from there businesses and others don't is they think differently about the business. For example, above I mentioned that there are loads of A Man with a Van adverts. These people are earning an income from moving items about physically themselves, when the same task could be done by someone else and they still earn an income (hiring them the trailer). Now instead of spending your day lifting items about you are free to concentrate on hiring other trailers out to other people. Get someone else to do the work while you look for ways to find new customers.

Bringing in customers (business) is the most important task each day. There are loads of ways to get new customers.
